Having worked for chipotle for over half a year now I can speak from personal experience that everything people have been saying on this site is completely true. It is quite obvious that the problems employees are experiencing are not just stemming from a few stores here and there. To the contrary, they are endemic. This serves only to prove that chipotle's business model is broken. The reason chipotle continues to succeed despite this is because of their false claims of sustainability, eco/animal friendliness, organic/non gmo/locally sourced food, and that they serve you a higher quality product because they have higher standards than anyone else. When you really think about it, it's genius, almost an evil sort of genius. They don't advertise using comercials, billboards, or circular ads in your mailbox. Instead, they use social media sites like facebook and reel in the exact sort of customer base they want with it, which for the most part are yuppie socialists and young, impressionable, hipster college students who have all jumped on the "green" bandwagon. Well, I'm here to tell anyone who will listen that it's all a lie and I can site specific examples. The other day I diced tomatoes that literally said on the side of the box that they were grown hydroponically in plastic. How is that organic? We regularly get our avacados from a farm in Argentina. How is that local? Every day we send gallons of caustic cleaning chemicals down the drain. How is that environmentally friendly? As far as their "high standards" go, they care more about profit and making sure their employees get a task done as quickly as possible (just like every other fast food restraunt) and could care less wether or not it was done well. For example, I washed a large metal pan at work the other night that is used during the prep of a variety of different foods. This time the pan had obviouly contained the delicious "non-gmo" corn you yuppies and hipsters so love to put in your bowls and burittos. Well guess what I found in the bottom of the pan after rinsing the corn out? RAW CHICKEN RESIDUE! That's right, before it contained corn that pan was used to marinate raw chicken and was not cleaned out properly. Why? Because chipotle shames their employees for taking too long if they actually try to do a good job of washing the dishes. This is not just a random occurance either, I find stuff like that all the time. How's that for high standards? Next time you get the chicken take a close look at it and you just might find some pink or even raw pieces in there. Why? Because chipotle shames their grill workers for "over cooking" the chicken because they want to lose as little weight from cooking as possible so they can squeeze out every penny of profit from every cube of chicken that they possibly can. There's your high standards. As far as sustainability goes, I believe chipotle is a freak and a monster that will eventually collapse under it's own weight. If things continue the way they are, and they will, chipotle has no chance of thriving as a business and will crash and burn within the next 20 years after making a fortune off of a lot of gullable people. If you are gay (this is not a slight against the gay lifestyle, Steve Ells, the ceo of chipotle is gay and thus they hire and seem to favor gay people for no other reason than they are gay) a good liar (chipotle values and promotes people who can spin a good yarn when an employee or customer has a grievance, the co-ceo, Marty Moran, was a lawyer before comming to work for his buddy and founder of the company, Steve Ells, when he found he was constantly being sued for his company's labor law violations) an atractive girl, or a bully, you will thrive at chipotle and be promoted in short order. If you are straight, conservative, christian, over thirty, have children, are unwilling to work for free from time to time, or wish to express any grievance you have with chipotle, you will not thrive there and your career there will be a living nightmare in which you have to be willing to put on a fake smile every day and take a never ending ration of shit. Chipotle is one big lie and they do not walk the culture of sustainability, empowerment, and high standards they promote on social media and their website but instead propagate one of bullying, favoritism, nepotism, and profiteering. Nuff said. Hope I opened a few eyes with this one.
