I find it funny that Chipotle cadders to the college bum class. As if we didn't have enough thick rimmed morons because of the Starbucks on my block. But it really is ironic how Chipotle radiates this egalitarian attitude, has progressive stances on social issues, and subscribes to the environmentally thoughtful food policies that left wing teenagers love to make a fuss about, even though they're also the classic institutional corporate monster type that the hippies loathe. Chipotle doesn't care about you. They don't care about the environment and they don't care about the community. They care about making money and becoming the most dominant food chain in the Mexican grill competitive scene.

Here in Syracuse, New York, a place called Ponchito's Taqueria opened up about six years ago. It was (and still is) a few blocks from my house. I ate there at least once a week for a year or more. It's a local gig, family run, and extremely authentic. The staff recognize you when you came in, and everyone is very friendly. Their restaurant was a hit and they opened a second location on the south side before the first Chipotle location was added. Now because Ponchito's focuses on quality, they're never going to go under, but they have lost some business to Chipotle. Why on earth anyone would want to visit the impersonable staff whom you glaze at for five seconds, to get an overpriced, half sized burrito instead of being a patron to the friendly, unique, and atmospherically inclined restaurants available to you in your own community is beyond me. You can either support your local food scene and farmers or buy into the big business food trade. You can talk to and make eye contact with the manager providing wages to your neighbors or you can grab your change from the exhausted brat behind a touch screen computer trained to regurgitate "have a nice day" after each meal is sold. The choices are very clear.

And that's the beauty of it. Almost none of you will make that choice. Hundreds of thousands of people will complain every day of the injustices big businesses have on our society. Don't get me wrong, I am a capitalist, but I am not a consumerist, And Chipotle reeks of consumerism like no other. They target the young and spend-trendy population ready to down gallons of cheap coffee from the thousands of conveniently placed Dunkin Doughnut shops on each corner. The population convinced Beats headphones provide some semblance of quality. The population that wouldn't dare to be seen in public without brand name clothing or the word PINK tattooed across their asses. The population glued to their iphones and addicted to Instagram. I think you get the point. The progressive and humanitarian buzz surrounding Chipotle isn't selfless, it's designed to hook you, and they've got you following the line and sinker right into their wallets. The idea that Chipotle somehow provides an exceptional product, impeccable service or a good price is rubbish, but because they beam at you and repeat all the time that they do these things, you're likely to believe it, just like you believe all the other nonsense designed to control you in the form of deceitful advertising and shallow promises.

Chipotle Sucks.
