after a full day of crying my eyes out i decided to google "chipotle sucks" on a whim, maybe for a much needed laugh...and i swear it's like i've been reading my story over and over in these posts from disgruntled employees/former employees.

the similarities are UNCANNY:

- overworked, underpaid crew members struggling to pick up slack because their shifts are ALWAYS understaffed, scurrying around to please their GMs, eek out their glorious promotions (they just GIVE the title of 'manager' away) and bow and scrape and lick the DMs asshole (or the assholes of steve ells' immediate underlings) anytime they decide to pay a random visit and tell you how bad you SUCK at your job.

- more conflicting information than the bible and even more emphasis that what's being preached at you is THE GOSPEL TRUTH. your chips are too crunchy, fry them for exactly 28 seconds! your chips are not done enough, throw them away! too salty! to limey! not enough lime! good god, look at the cut size on those fajitas, you'll kill someone! bigger! bigger fajitas or they'll burn! FOUR OUNCES OF MEAT PER CUSTOMER, UNLESS THEY PAY FOR EXTRA! how could you piss that customer off by being so stingy with your portion sizes???

- childish, petty, unprofessional behavior. I cannot tell you how many times i have felt humiliated at the end of my shift because of small, human mistakes made on the line during the dinner rush. i guess i'm just RETARDED, right chipotle? cuz the tacos were to go, not for here??? and it's really great how highschool everyone is and talks about EVERYBODY (behind their back or within earshot, doesn't matter)

- your job lasts as long as the smile plastered on your face. it is absolutely NO EXAGGERATION to say that you can and WILL be fired for not smiling enough. doesn't matter if you have a good rapport with customers and crew...if it doesn't translate well on the DVR for the all seeing all knowing GOD of an area manager, you can kiss your ass goodbye.

- slave labor. they WILL work you to the bone...completely disregard their schedules and keep your HOURS after your appointed time off...then BITCH and COMPLAIN about how they are blowing labor.

i haven't been fired yet but i'm definitely next on the chopping block. i've worked there for about half a year, have done fairly well. started at a rate of 8.10, made to 8.30 within a couple of months. my primary position is cashier. after constantly being told how good i am on cash, training others on cash, and being hailed as the best closer of the lobby i was really excited when the words "management" and "promotion" started being used...I started getting trained in other areas, kitchen prep, the line...always with glowing reviews at my speed and my ability to learn quickly.

so it came as a shock to me today when i was told that i may need to seek other employment in the very near future...i won't go into details (among the many derogatory terms used to refer to chipotle on this board, chiCULTle was one. although i laughed out loud when i saw it... it really is such an accurate description of this company.... i'm not entirely sure that this board isn't just a net for weeding out chipotle nay-sayers, hunting them down and chopping them up into carnitas) but trust me....every complaint on this board from employees is TRUE. there is nothing exaggerated here...you may think "hey, i want to be cool...serve good, natural food to people, it'll be great!"

trust me. it's not great.
